What the terms actually mean

Plain definitions for the words that come up when women research booking a boyfriend — what each one means, and just as importantly, what it does not.

Rental boyfriend

Also searched as: rent a boyfriend, boyfriend for rent, rent-a-bf

A rental boyfriend is a vetted man you book for a set period as strictly platonic company — most often a wedding date, an event plus-one, dinner company, or a travel day.

"Rental" describes the arrangement, not the person: you are paying for someone's time and attention for an agreed window, the way you would a guide or an event host. It is non-romantic and non-physical, and expectations are agreed in writing before you meet.

BF experience

Also searched as: boyfriend experience, the BF experience

The BF experience is the feeling of being accompanied by someone warm and attentive — a confident plus-one, easy conversation, a calm presence — arranged for a set time and kept platonic.

People search the abbreviation far more than the full phrase. It describes the atmosphere of the booking rather than any specific activity: you are booking ease and company, not a relationship and not intimacy.

What the boyfriend experience includes

Platonic companion

A platonic companion is someone who accompanies you socially with no romantic or physical element whatsoever — the defining feature is the boundary, not the activity.

Every booking here is platonic by design, and that is stated up front to both sides. Boundaries are agreed before the first meeting, first meetings happen in public places, and either side can end a booking if comfort is broken.

Plus-one

A plus-one is the guest you are entitled to bring to an event — most commonly a wedding invitation addressed to you "and guest".

Hiring a plus-one is the single most common reason women book here. The practical value is not the empty seat; it is arriving with someone, having a person to talk to between courses, and not fielding questions about why you came alone.

Day rate

The day rate is the fee for one full day of a boyfriend's time. Bookings here start at one full day — there is no hourly option.

A day rate covers his time and attention only. Shared costs — meals, tickets, travel — are separate, and both the rate and the expected expenses are confirmed in writing before you commit to anything. Rates track local incomes, so the same booking costs roughly 2.8× more in New York than in Moscow.

Agency-managed booking

An agency-managed booking is one where the agency verifies both sides, holds the arrangement, and stays reachable throughout — rather than introducing two people and stepping away.

It matters mostly when something goes wrong. Because communication and payment stay inside the agency, there is always a third party accountable for the booking, and no one has to share personal contact details to arrange it.
